Description

There is currently no option to disable the attribute selection when axes and legend titles are clicked. This option should be added under the global settings control panel.

This one is a pretty high priority for us, since we use Dashboard mode for all of our vizzies. With this feature added, it would give us far greater control over the user experience!

it seems like this should just be the default when dashboard mode is active.

Not if you want an interactive dashboard. =)

which granularity do you have in mind? my preference would be a global property that can be overridden by by tool-bound properties.

#7 Updated by Andy Dufilie over 5 years ago

Would you really need to override it on individual tools?
I think it would be weird to have a page where only one tool allowed changing the attributes. How would you know which are enabled and which aren't?

my priority is global. if it's a low hanging fruit to set the property on tools, then apply it, otherwise hold off until somebody has a strong need and use case for it.

I can see use cases where it makes sense to control it for each tool though - e.g. you have a screen where one tool is set as "control" visualization, the baseline for data exploration in other tools on the screen, which should be stable.

A fix for this was just pushed to the git repository. It should be in tonight's nightly build.

To enable this option, go to Session > User Interface Preferences > Appearance, and you will see a check box "Enable tool controls." When this is enabled (default), the behavior is the same as before: each visualization has a settings button and the user can click on the axes to change a column. When this is unchecked, the settings button disappears and the user cannot click on the axes to change a column.
